On Saturday I found this tree a few dozen yards from an old excavation site, about a mile from an old mine and four miles from the old Burro Mine in Davis County. I haven't been looking for markers on trees but this one caught my attention because it is in a remote canyon and is close to a spring and old excavations. Can anyone tell me if there is any possible meaning to this mark?

I have visited several sites with writings on the rocks. Fillmore, Manti, heard they are found in Ogden, Provo, Cedar City, Nephi but have not been to those sites.
